About the baby routines
Our 24 hour baby routines, ranging from newborn to twelve months of age can make a huge difference to you and your newborn baby. These gentle routines provide a helpful rhythm to the day rather than a rigid clock-watching schedule. They give you a plan to follow for sleeping, feeding and activity for your baby.
Structure and routine make children less anxious because, if they know what to expect, they become more cooperative as they feel they have some control over situations.

Newborns can have a rhythm to their day with cycles of feed, activity and sleep happening roughly every two to four hours. A strict clock-watching regimen can actually do more harm than good but our recommendations for structure and routine will help establish rituals that help for the months ahead.
From six weeks to three months, things don’t change a great deal but with the right routine, you can start to feel a bit more in control and your baby should be starting to develop more of a pattern with their sleeping and feeding. Our routines can help you set a structure to your day and your baby’s and will give your baby a sense of where the day is going.
From three months to six months, babies can get into a nice routine and you can start to feel a bit more predictability about your day. If your baby has not learnt to sleep past one sleep cycle and is waking regularly at the 45 minute mark (which is very common in the daytime), now is a great time to teach them to sleep longer. Our routines are gentle but effective.
By six months, you should be able to have a predictable routine happening. Babies of this age have really started to develop expectation so routine and ritual are important. As babies get older, a regular rhythm to the day can help them feel a sense of control which can make them more relaxed. It’s never too late to introduce a routine to give you some certainty about your day and help your baby rest better.
Between nine and twelve months of age, babies should ideally be sleeping 10 to 12 hours a night, with one early morning “roll-over” feed if necessary, and be having two naps a day for about one to two hours each or one short nap of 45 minutes and one longer nap.
Routine and Ritual
Routine and ritual means that something, like an act, is repeated and reinforced. Routines structure the way we handle the things in a child’s life like waking, eating, bath time, bedtime etc.
We do a lot of these rituals unconsciously, like the way we kiss our child goodbye, give them a morning hug or a wave bye-bye. These rituals enable a child to understand what’s coming next, what they can expect and what is expected of them. It helps them make better sense of the world around them.
It is never too early to start a baby routine and I believe the earlier the better. Routines help babies learn to self-settle and how to be great sleepers. It also helps children deal with separation from their parents and allows them to feel secure and safe.
