Well there are two ways: cold turkey and gradual. I actually favour the ‘cold turkey’ method just because it doesn’t prolong the whole process and at this age a baby forgets they ever had a dummy in a day or two. I also don’t think it is any more distressing for the baby, in fact I think it is better for them to get it over with quickly. But some parents don’t want to do it that way and that is absolutely fine too.

To ‘cold turkey’ the dummy removal firstly you have to throw all the dummies in the house out so you won’t be tempted to use one. Make sure there are none lurking in the car or the pram either, I know there have been times when desperate mums and dads have searched the house looking for that stray dummy!
